Abbreviated as SCUJNS, the Society of China University Journals in Natural Sciences is an academic and non-profit organization formed by the journal editors from the institutions of higher learning all over the country. It is directly under the administration and supervision of the Education Ministry of the People Republic of China. The SCUJNS was founded in May of 1987, with an original name as the Society of Natural Science Journals in Universities and Colleges.

　　Approved by the former State Education Committee in December of 1991 and later with the agreement from the Press and Publication Administration, in 1993 the SCUJNS became the society at the national level and began the use of its present name during the registration organized by the Ministry of Civil Affairs.

　　 Today the SCUJNS has 753 full organizational members and over 3000 individual members. In 2004 its fifth board of directors was elected in the Fifth National Member Representatives Conference.

　　 Currently there are 120 directors on the board, and 43 of which are standing directors. The chairman is Professor Yan Shuai, Editor-in-chief of Journal of Beijing Forestry University. The secretariat is in Beijing Normal University.
